This article explains the possibilities of running PC-Check on a standalone computer or DMZ computer.

Installation on standalone computer or DMZ computer

PC-Check is basically designed to be operated in a network. This means that there are many clients (workstation computers) and a limited number of admin and designer computers. Data is exchanged between the systems via the two network shares ConfigShare and ResultShare. In addition, there is the Speedtest share for performing the network speed test.

In some cases, however, it is desirable to run PC-Check on a standalone computer. Either because the computer actually has no network connections or because they are not to be used for security reasons, for example with DMZ computers (Demilitarized Zone).

Two different procedures are described below to achieve this goal.

Method 1: Standalone installation

With the standalone installation, all PC-Check components - consisting of PC-Check Client, Admin and Designer - are installed on a single computer. The advantage of this is that you have all components at hand and can run checks on this computer, analyze them with PC-Check Client or Admin and modify them with Designer or create new ones. The complete installation requires only about 5 MB of hard disk space.

Procedure: Run Setup.exe and select "Standalone installation". After the installation is complete, a full standalone installation is available. Then use PC-Check Designer to modify your checks and customize them to your needs.

The network speed test measures copy processes within the own computer in a standalone installation. This results in very high values being displayed.

Method 2: Copy from other computer

PC-Check is a portable software. This gives you the possibility to easily copy the PC-Check directory of a client to another computer, for example to a standalone computer.

Procedure:

  1. Create your desired checks on a computer on which PC-Check Designer is installed. For example, name the configuration "Standalone". Set the configuration to "active" and copy the Standalone.cfg file from your ConfigShare directory to the already existing C:\Program Files (x86)\PC-Check\bin directory. The ConfigShare directory is displayed in the bottom left corner of the Designer.
  2. Copy the C:\Program Files (x86)\PC-Check directory (with subdirectories) to the same location on your standalone computer and delete the default.cfg file from the C:\Program Files (x86)\PC-Check\bin directory.
  3. If PC-Check has been run on the standalone computer before, delete the directories %appdata%\PC-Check and %localappdata%\PC-Check.

Now start the PC-Check.exe file.

If changes to the configuration are necessary, you can make them on the network computer and then copy the Standalone.cfg file to the standalone computer - but now to the %appdata%\PC-Check directory.
