KB2302052 - Moving the PC-Check server
05-Feb-2023
This article explains how to proceed when upgrading to a new PC-Check version. It is assumed that PC-Check is operated in a network with central administration. Subsequently, the upgrade procedure for a standalone installation is explained.
Refers to: PC-Check 3, PC-Check 4
Moving the network shares
The goal is to create new network shares named ConfigShare and ResultShare on a new server. You can create the shares manually by looking at the properties of the previous shares and creating them on the new server so that \\<ServerOld>\ConfigShare$ and \\<ServerOld>\ResultShare$ and \\<ServerNew>\ConfigShare$ and \\<ServerNew>\ResultShare$ shares exist temporarily. Optionally, you can recreate the Speedtest share in the same way.
Alternatively, you can also create the new shares using the installation wizard. To do this, start the Setup.exe file from the installation source, select "Network installation" and perform step 1 (create the central shares).
Then copy all files and subdirectories of the previous network shares to the new ones.
Customization of the clients
The shares used by the PC-Check client are entered in the PC-Check.ini file, which is located by default in the C:\Program Files (x86)\PC-Check directory. In this file the values for ConfigShare, ResultShare and Speedtest must now be adjusted. In a smaller environment this can be done manually. In a larger environment, the PC-Check client is uninstalled with your software distribution system and reinstalled with the new values.
Admin software customization
PC-Check Admin: For all admins using PC-Check Admin, adjust the values for ConfigShare and ResultShare in the PC-Check-Admin.ini file (located by default in C:\Program Files (x86)\PC-Check).
PC-Check Designer: For all admins using PC-Check Designer, adjust the ConfigShare and ResultShare values in the PC-Check-Designer.ini file (located by default in C:\Program Files (x86)\PC-Check).
Deleting the old shares
Finally, you can delete the (old) shares that are no longer needed.
