Run PingTool multiple times

Post by Lugrain »

Starting with version 5.0, you can run PingTool multiple times on a single PC. This offers many advantages, for example, when working on different tasks. For instance, you might normally monitor a set of network objects, but today you need to configure 10 network printers. In that case, it’s easier to keep track of things if you launch PingTool a second time.

Here’s how it works:

Start a completely new PingTool instance
Simply launch a second instance of PingTool using the PingTool.exe file or the associated icon. In a completely new instance, no objects from the already running PingTool instance will be carried over, nor will any settings such as Dark Mode or user-defined actions, commands, etc.

Start a copy
In the already running PingTool instance, click File / Copy Instance. This transfers all objects and settings to the new PingTool instance. A descriptive instance name makes it easy to locate the instance later.

The first (original) PingTool instance - which is always used when PingTool is first launched - is always located at %localappdata%\PingTool, for example, at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\PingTool. Under "Objects," you will also find the monitored objects as files. Additional PingTool instances are located at %localappdata%\PingTool-Instances.
